Dr. Hoopes was born and raised in the Boston area. He moved to Philadelphia to study mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania during which he also studied abroad at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Columbia University while serving as class president.
Dr. Hoopes enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to leave the cold winters of the Northeast and moved to the Triangle to complete his specialty training in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While attending UNC, he completed his Master’s thesis on bone remodeling that occurs when using mini-implants during orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Hoopes is married to Dr. Cher Hoopes, an endodontist in the Triangle, whom he met in dental school. Outside of orthodontics, Dr. Hoopes loves exploring the beautiful hiking trails in North Carolina with his wife and their dog, Sawyer. He also enjoys cooking, watching Formula 1 racing, and rooting for his Boston sports teams.
